Two journalists were beaten separately in Kabul and Ghazni

Mr. Jamal Naser Farahmand a reporter for Tolo TV was beaten by security personnel of the second VP this morning. 

According to Mr. Farahmand he has been beaten while he was leaving for office. 

He states: “my car was stopped by security guards of Mr. Danish while I was heading to office, and when I asked for explanation, they first hit my car with the gun and then started to beat me when I got out of the car.”

According to Mr. Farahmand he was accompanied by his brother and he was also beaten during the incident. 

In another incident Mr. Hussain Rahimi a reporter for Tamadun TV, a local station was beaten during a demonstration in Ghazni. 

Mr. Rahimi was there to cover the demonstrations of Qarabagh district’s people. According to him, he was first abused and sworn to, and when he insisted that he is only doing his job as a journalist by covering the news, he was beaten. 

Afghanistan’s National Journalists Union (ANJU) while perceives any kind of violence against journalists as a violation of the law, has demanded the prosecution of these two cases. 

Mr. Faheem Dashty director of ANJU asserts: “both of these cases have been submitted to the Joint Committee of Media and Government and we are trying to prosecute the perpetrators of these incidents through that channel.”
