Celebrating International day of media ethics
Monday September 23, 2013

Journalists’ associations and Media supporting agencies celebrated the "international media ethics day". Since years, the international day of media ethics is being celebrated in 29th of September.

Dozens of journalists attended in today’s meeting that was held with the help of Afghanistan journalists center, Afghanistan journalists Federation, Nai the supporter of open media in Afghanistan and some other private media.

At the beginning of the meeting Mr. Mujib Khilwatgar the president of Nai in detailed explanations mentioned the efforts in recent years for compiling ethical standards of journalism in Afghanistan, and Mr. Ahmad Quraishi president of Afghanistan Journalists Center also added some information about the international day of media ethics and some countries which are celebrating this day.

On  the other hand, Mr. Khpilwak Sapi the president of Afghanistan Free Journalists Association and a member of Afghanistan Journalists Federation  read the draft copy of journalism ethics in Afghanistan.

The draft copy of journalism ethics was prepared few months ago by Afghanistan Journalists Federation with the help of Ministry of Information and Culture, and was planned to present it in large meetings in four major cities of the country then to be approved by a meeting of journalists in Kabul.

Still this plan has not been implemented. Mr. Mohammad Faheem Dashtiy Chief Executive of Afghanistan's National Journalists Union and a board member of Afghanistan Journalists Federation said; the main reason for not implementing the plan has been the lack of financial resources.

Dashty included in his speech “ while preparing the draft copy a number of donor countries and organizations in announced that they will financially support the prosses but finally they didn’t fulfill their promises.”

In past years, efforts have also been made to develop a standard for ethical journalism in the country; but these efforts were not comprehensive and did not include the opinions and suggestions of most journalists, so , still the media community of Afghanistan  suffers the lack of ethical norms to all journalists.
