Protest against the government's prevention for approving the (RTI) law

Hundreds of Journalists staged a demonstration in front of the National Assembly and asked parliamentarians to enforce the Government for sending the draft copy of Rights to Information (RTI) law to National Assembly.

The journalists also demanded the immediate approval of this act by National Assembly.

The first draft copy of RTI law was prepared two years ago by cooperation of some journalists associations and Ministry of information and culture.

In recent months, the Journalists' associations had tried to prepare final draft copy of RTI in collaboration with Ministry of Justice, so that sent it to the National Assembly after the confirmation of Ministers Council, but the government intentionally delaying to sent RTI law to National Assembly.

In a meeting today, The reporters submitted a resolution to Ms. Hayley Ershad Chairman of Parliament religious and cultural committee, and she promised to give the resolutions to General assembly house of representatives.

The following issues were mentioned in the resolution:

- Requesting National Assembly to prepare a one-week deadline for Government to send RTI law to them.

- Requesting National Assembly for rapid sanctioning and monitoring the implementation of RTI law, and legally dealing with those who violate the law.

-   Asking the United Nations to put pressure on Afghan Government in order to provide the right of access to information in the country.
