Statement No: 115
A letter was delivered to the ‘Ansar zone 606’ of Herat from the General Directorate to Fight Crimes of the Ministry of Interior Affairs, in which two journalists along with the head of the Crimes Investigation of Herat Police were assigned to prosecute the cases of violence against journalists.
The letter caused an outcry from some journalists of Herat as well as the members of the Joint Committee of Media and Government in that province. They expressed their complaint on submission of such letter and demanded explanation from the Federation of Journalists’ organizations and Media of Afghanistan.
In parts of this letter, the journalists are mentioned as members of the Federation.
The Federation hereby pronounces that it has had no role in preparing such a letter and based on the information received from the Ministry of Interior Affairs, the letter itself has been a result of misunderstanding.
The Federation which has been a genuine partner of the government in preparing and implementation of the regulation on safety and security of journalists, on the basis of which the Joint Committees of Media and Government in the Capital and provinces were formed, is strongly bound to these regulations and it is by no means seeking to create any parallel mechanism.
