Statement No: 117
Following the terrorist attacks of April 29 which claimed the lives of nine journalists, photographers, cameramen and injured many more; the government, generous individuals, and charity organization reached the victims of the incidents with financial assistance. Among the recipients of this assistance were wounded journalists and their families and the families of martyred journalists as well as the families of Ahmad Shah the late correspondent of BBC in Khost, and that of Abdulmanan Arghan the late reporter of Kabul-news in Kandahar who were recently been martyred.
The Federation of Journalists’ Organization and Media of Afghanistan announces that though it has frequently asked the government to reach the families of the victims and it has guided some generous individuals who wanted to directly help those families, however it has not been directly involved in distribution of these assistances and it has not received any funds from any individual or group in the name of the victims of April 29.
The Federation emphasizes that it is seeking to provide further assistance to the victims of April 29 attacks through Journalists Support Fund. Based on the regulations of the Fund, assistance shall be provided to the journalists in need.
Seizing this opportunity, the Federation also wants to declare that those individuals, groups, local or international organizations which are keen to deliver their assistance to those journalists who are recognized to be assisted, can do so in coordination with the Federation and Journalists Support Fund.
The Federation deems it necessary to mention that it shall not get involved in case any individual may tend to deliver their assistance independently to the victims and their families, and it appreciates their generous efforts.
