Threats against the founder of journalism of Ghur Province

Mr. Nadim Ghuri, manager of Saam artistic and cultural foundation and the editor in chief of Saam monthly magazine has recently been repeatedly threatened to death by Taliban.

Mr. Ghuri, who is the founder of Ghur Publication, has been engaged with cultural and news reporting activities in Ghur province since late seventies, solar. According to Ghuri, his sharp criticism of bad social customs in the province is the main reason of the threats which he has recently been faced with.

Mr. Ghuri, who has been working as teacher in Ghur schools, says that the other cause of the threats is his daughter’s activism in Ghur state TV channel.

He says, during last couple of weeks, he had received many threats through phone calls and lately he has found letters next to his home which are written by Taliban, threatening him and his family to death.

He adds that he had shared this issue with Ghur province officials for several times, but there weren’t any proper responses.

He believes that if these threats continue he will have to abandon his cultural and news reporting activities and with his family leave Ghur province.

Afghanistan National Journalists’ Union (ANJU) representatives in Ghur province acknowledge that Mr. has been under threats.

Mr. Abdul Qadeer Ghafoori head of ANJU office in Ghur said: “we are aware of the threats and have shared them with the government officials.”

Ghur police commander Mr. Delawar Shah Delawari insists that Ghur province has no major security problem and his commanded the police force to keep his house under surveillance. He ensures that there will be enough cooperation with Mr. Ghuri.
