
In a meetingGhor Journalists have elected the leadership of Afghanistan National Journalists’ Union (ANJU) of that province.
In the meeting more than 40 journalists from different media outlets elected the provincialANJU leadership, and promised to defend the freedom of expression and journalists’ rights collectively.
At the end of the program Mr. Abdul QadeerGhafuri was elected as the president.
Mr. Ghafuri thanked the journalists and said: “the purpose of this office is to protect freedom of speech, to advocate for journalists’ rights and provide them capacity building programs in this province.”
“We are aware of great problems of journalists in this province. We would try to fight the enemies of freedom of speech and develop the capacities of our journalists” he added.
Mr. M. Hassan Hakimi, a journalist from Pajzwak news agency, was another speaker of the program who said: “this office is established to provide coordination between journalists in order to reach its goals”.
Limited access to information, pressures and threats were main problems of journalists in Ghor province during previous years.
While welcoming the achievement of Ghor journalists, ANJU headquarters in Kabul declares its support to journalists in Ghor province.
Chief Executive Officer of ANJU, Mr. M. FaheemDashty said: “coordination among journalists of a distant province such as Ghor, is a positive message”.
“ANJU seeks its provincial offices to be opened in different provinces so that they can support and defend journalists in a proper way” he added.
