Those responsible for the violence against Bashash, must be punished

Friday January 11, 2019

Afghanistan National Journalists Union (ANJU) and other local Journalists of Takhar province in a protest meeting strongly condemned the brutal insult, misbehavior, beatings, and humiliation of Saddam Hussain Bashash, a local news reporter of Aina TV in Takhar.

The local police authorities of Dasht Qala district committed such brutal insult against Mr. Bashash. In this meeting, which was organized in the provincial office of ANJU in Takhar, all Takhar media outlets in a united voice requested Takhar Chief of Police for a complete inspection of the incident. Also, another request was addressed through an official letter to the Military Attorney in order to inspect the details of the incident.

Therefore, ANJU, Journalists of Takhar Province, and Afghan Journalists Protection Committee demanded the Chief of Police for Takhar, a quick response, and implementation of the following articles;

1.Complete and detailed inspection of the incident, and arrestment of those who committed this act.

2.Ensuring the safety and security for Saddam Hussain Bashah, news reporter of Aina TV, and his family in Dasht Qala district.

3.Sending an official letter to all police authorities operating in all districts of Takhar, and ordering them to treat the Journalist in a good manner. And also, to help them in having an appropriate access to information and humane behavior.

It is worth noting that the local authorities of police have threatened Bashash, and thus, acquired a letter of innocence from him. This letter is of no legal and institutional credit to ANJU and it is not a valuable document. Therefore, the case should be followed up by the military court.

He was beaten while imaging Dasht Qala district of Takhar province.
