
The stance of media and ‘journalists and media support organizations’ in relation to the peace talks was stated during a press conference this morning.
In this conference which was attended by a number of media administrators and leadership of the Federation of Journalists’ Organizations and Media of Afghanistan, a statement was issued addressing the negotiating parties in the ongoing peace talks.
In this statement, the Afghan government, Taliban, regional and trans-regional countries which are involved in peace talks were asked to consider the freedom of speech, activities of free media and the flow of information in accordance to the current laws of the country.
In parts of this statement, references were made to the achievements of media in the last eighteen [seventeen] years, stating that Afghan media and the Federation of Journalists’ Organizations and Media of Afghanistan as the biggest consortium in support of journalists and media, are not prepared to sacrifice these achievements at any cost.
The officials in the Federation of Journalists’ Organizations and Media of Afghanistan state that similar meetings will be organized in other provinces as well in order to gain the support of journalists and media workers throughout the country and an announcement will be then made in respect to the peace talks.
