Yesterday President Ghani, ordered the relevant government offices to facilitate the activities of media institutes in request of Afghanistan media federations. In this verdict few specific guidance issued to addressed various government agencies.
According to this verdict, the prosecutors and or any other office can’t prosecute the violations of media.
The mass media law has given this right to commission heard complaints and media violence, but in past years, various government agencies including attorney general contrary to the law have been prosecuting the media and journalists.
In another part of the sentence, the president has ordered security agencies on how to deal with journalists and the media and include it on their studies and make it as a standard on the security agencies while they are trained, in past years the violence cases against journalists and media were the big problems from the security agencies.
In the president’s verdict, also the police and general attorney office has been ordered to track the cases of murdered journalist in past years with seriousness.
From 2001 onwards, at least 30 journalists have been killed in various forms in Kabul and other provinces, but the perpetrators remain unknown, according to the verdict of the new presidential, the cases of these murders should be seriously tracked and the results should be place in disposal of the public as soon as possible.
In the president’s verdict, facilitating access to information, classification of information in government departments in the result which information should be published and which information should be kept confidential are specified, and the responsibility of media/journalist support agencies has been also specified and guided in this verdict according to journalism and media ethics.
From last two months, the federation of journalists and Afghanistan media have been in contact with the president office and have proposed many suggestions, and in this verdict of president, many of these suggestions and comments has been answered and approved.
However, in term of securing and ensuring the media, journalists and employee of media institutes security, also this federation has suggestions and and wish them to be approved and answered to these suggestions.
