
Spokesperson of National Directorate of Security (NDS) says
that officers of this organization have apologized for the unlawful treatment with reporters during reporting process about suicide attack on last Wednesday in Kabul.
Last Wednesday, during news coverage of the suicide attack, at least three reporters were physically assaulted and a female reporter was insulted by security officers.
Posted pictures of violence by security officer on media and social networks attracted most of the attentions to this issue.
These pictures show security officers beating and insulting two of the reporters.
Mr. Shafiq Tahiry, spokesperson of NDS has said that those reporters have been apologized. He said: “when we talked the officers, they said that it wasn’t a deliberate act and we are sorry for that.”
He added: “it was a mistake and an outcome of that hard and compulsive situation.”
Meanwhile, some of freedom of speech, media and journalist organizations, which have been recently organized under the umbrella of “Afghanistan Journalists’ Federation”, have declared that they will organize a meeting with security officials of the country and discuss the issue of last violence against reporters in order to prevent the repetition of such incidence.
Mr. M. Fahim Dashty the Chief Executive Officer of Afghanistan National Journalists’ Union and a member of Afghanistan Journalists’ Federation Says: “contacts have been made with security officials and till the end of this week a meeting between security officials and representatives of Afghanistan Journalists’ Federation will be organized .” He says that the representatives of Afghanistan Journalists’ Federation will share some specific plans with security officials which will help to prevent violence against reporters in the future, if both sides agree upon them.
