
On Tuesday, the December 18, 8am daily newspaper received the press freedom prize from Journalist without Borders Association. This prize is awarded by Journalists without Borders in cooperation with French “Lemond” daily and 5th TV Channel, every year to journalists and media around the world which have greater achievements in informing people and spreading freedom of expression.
This year prize awarded jointly to 8am daily newspaper of Afghanistan and Mr. Mazen Darwish, Syrian journalist.
In the ceremony which had been held for this purpose in” Lemond” Daily’s Conference Hall in Paris, Mr. Sanjar Suhail, the concessioner of 8am daily newspaper said: “achieving this prize by 8am daily is a great honor for us, our readers and free press of Afghanistan.”
In order to celebrate the achievement of this international prize by 8am, on Wednesday the December 19, Nay the supporter of Afghan media and Afghanistan National Journalists’ Union, jointly conducted a press conference, and congratulated this pride to 8am daily newspaper, press activists and all media of Afghanistan.
In this gathering, the two organizations have suggested to name one of the roads in Kabul as the “road of freedom of speech”, in order to respecting the achievements of Afghan free press and the journalists who have lost their lives or put their lives in jeopardy for ensuring freedom of speech and access to information in Afghanistan.
Both organizations have demanded the Ministry of Information and Culture and the Kabul Municipality, preferably select the road in front of the Ministry of Information and Culture for this purpose.
Mr. Fahim Dashty and Mr. Sediqullah Tawhidy who where representing ANJU and the Nay, mentioned, that for obtaining this goal (Naming a road in Kabul as the road of freedom of speech) they will conduct joint efforts based on mutual understanding with other journalist organizations, freedom of speech defending institutions and the media.
