Sultan Mahmood Khairkhwah, local news reporter of Zhman TV in Khost province, and a well-known Journalists of this zone was shot in gun by unknowns yesterday early morning and passed away at 09:00 PM last night.
Armed unknown group targeted Mr. Khairkhwah and brought him down with several gunshots. He was seriously injured and passed away in the hospital.
Although all active agencies in free speech and Journalism, as well as the local government attempted to take him to the capital for a better treatment. However, due to his circumstances, the hospital did not allow to transport him to the capital.
Local authorities of Khost mentioned that the investigation of the case has been started, however, there are little solid evidence to know the realities yet.
Authorities in Ministry of Interior (MoI) also ensured the free speech activists that his case will be investigated comprehensively. All active institutions in Journalism and free speech asked the government for an immediate action and serious investigation of this case.
Mr. Faheem Dashty, CEO of ANJU while strongly condemning the issue said;
“Mr. Khairkhwah was martyred as a deliberate and targeted move, thus, we look forward to the government authorities to move on with an appropriate speed, and identify the terrorists who committed such a brutal act of violence.”
As per Mr. Dashty, ANJU along with other organizations working to ensure free speech and strengthen Journalism, including the Journalists federation and media outlets will monitor the investigation of this case until the end.
