Afghanistan National Journalists’ Union Declaration on Occasion of Attack on Editor in Chief of Mandegar Newspaper
Today evening Mr. Hakeem Nazary Paryany, editor in chief of Mandegar newspaper, was targeted in a failed assassination attempt. While Mr. Paryani survived the attack, one of his cousins wounded in the leg area and has been hospitalized.
This attack took place next to Mr. Paryany’s home in Maranjan Hill.
Yet Kabul police have no comments on the incident, but Mr. Paryany says that after the attack Police came to the site and seemingly they were trying to find the attacker.
Afghanistan National Journalists’ Union (ANJU) condemns the attack on editor in chief of Mandegar Newspaper, and asks the security officials to protect the journalists, especially those, who are the obvious critics of the government and the disclosers of unlawful deeds of criminal and Mafia groups.
The ANJU also considers the disregard of Ministry of Information and Culture toward the threats against journalists and media activist in the country as a questionable act and in the contrary to the constitution and media law.
Once more we ask other journalist, freedom of speech and media organizations of Afghanistan to stand, hand to hand, in front of all threats and efforts being made for restricting freedom of expression in the country.
