Statement No 23

Tuesday February 19, 2013

To the Ministries of Interior Affairs and Information and Culture!

Through the letter # 105, on 21st Jan 2013 Afghanistan National Journalists’ Union (ANJU) had informed both Ministries of the problem which most of the Journalists in Takhar Province are having with Police Commander of that province.

Attached with that, there was an open letter, which was signed by more than 50 journalists of Takhar province as well as Kunduz and Badakhshan provinces in support of Journalists in Takhar.

It is about one month, since the letters are sent to the respected Ministries, but they haven’t taken any action yet while ANJU and the Journalists of Takhar Province are expecting both Ministries to quickly and seriously resolve the problem.

ANJU would send another official letter to the Ministries while requesting them, once again through this declaration, to eradicate the problem of Takhar Journalists with the Police Commander of that Province.

Providing security and better job opportunities for those Journalists are the main responsibilities of the government. By pointing to this issue, ANJU declares its concerns regarding indifference of governmental bodies around such problems.

ANJU also asks the MPs, Civil Rights Organizations and specially the Afghanistan Journalists’ Federation to note the needs and advocacy of Takhar Journalists.
