ANJU declaration on Minister of Information and Culture’s retreat
After journalist organizations including Afghanistan National Journalists’ Union (ANJU) reacted against fake elections which was conducted by Minister of Information and Culture in order to elect journalists’ representatives to Media High Council "Sayad Makhdum Raheen" Minister of Information and Culture declared the result of the election invalid in a press conference today morning.
ANJU considers the withdrawal of Minister of Information and Culture as a great achievement for the journalist community in the country and welcome it while insisting that the procedures of elections which are provided by the Ministry should be revised.
A week ago Afghanistan Journalists Federation where ANJU is also its active member, had declared that the procedures of this elections are against Mass Media Law and should be corrected, But Minister of Information and Culture ignored those lawful objections and conducted the fraudulent elections which has been announced invalided this morning.
ANJU asks all its members and other journalists in the country to continue their advocacy for conducting legal and fair elections in order to elect their representatives for Media High Council.
We believe that our resistance against illegal actions which are for more limitation and restrictions on media activities and freedom of speech in the country, will result greatly positive.
