Beating up reporters is a crime, the offenders should be detained
Afghanistan's National Journalists Union (ANJU) strictly condemns the assault conducted against 3TV channel reporter next to National Olympic Committee (NOC) yesterday. In this accident "Negah" TV channel reporter’s recording camera was also taken by attackers.
Since attacks on journalists, especially beating up a reporter, is a crime, ANJU asks security establishments to find out the offenders and prosecute them.
ANJU is in direct contact with police officials in order to make sure that the identities of attackers are revealed and they are detained.
Violence, pressures and threats against reporters have been rising in the last few week and it shows that there is need to provide more security for journalists.
ANJU requests other journalist organizations and reporter’s support institutions, especially Afghanistan Journalists Federation (AJF) to undertake useful programs in this field.
ANJU also informs all reporters and media activists to contact this union immediately whenever they face any problem.
