Protest against the insult of a BBC reporter in Kunar province

According to the reports from Kunar, Nematullah Karyab BBC reporter has been insulted and threatened by one of the Judges of the province.

Reports assert that Nematullah Karyab was insulted and threatened by one of the high ranking judges of  court of appeal in Kunar province while he was trying to prepare a report.

While expecting from the judicial system of the country, as a main pillar of rule of law, to welcome and  support the media for revealing unlawful deeds, Afghanistan's National Journalists Union (ANJU) strictly condemns any types of illegal encounter with reporters even by the top level judiciary officials, and asks the judicial system of the country to prevent such wrong treatments with journalists.

Because of the escalating threats and pressures on reporters during last weeks, ANJU demands Government establishments, the Parliament, civil society organizations and national and international human rights and freedom of speech institutions to support reporters in order to decrease the level of threats and pressures on journalists.
