Tracking the Charges against Minister of Information and Culture
In past few days, Afghanistan National TV is broadcasting video clips of Information and Culture Minister Mr. Sayed Makhdoom Raheen’s supporters to show his integrity while the issues relevant to the charges of Mr. Raheen are in process at responsible institutions.
An official letter that Afghanistan’s National Journalists Union has received from Afghan National Directorate of Security shows that the case is being reviewed by the National Security Department and Attorney General.
Similarly, according to the information that ANJU has received from Anti-bribery and Corruption High Office they are also following up the case.
Mr. Azizullah Lodin head of The Anti-bribery and Corruption High Office says that President Karzai ordered to a Joint Commission to follow up the case and still the results of the case are not final.
Mr. Lodin has also included that he had stated this issue while having a conversation with reporters of Afghanistan National TV, but when broadcasting the conversation this point has been removed.
Afghanistan's National Journalists Union emphasizes that the case should be carefully reviewed by the responsible institutions.
We also continue to believe that the use of National TV for advertising and partiality of Mr. Makhdoom Raheen Minister of Information and culture must be stopped.
ANJU believes that the misuse of National TV to advertise for the minister of Information and Culture is against the Journalism standards and emphasizes that the expression of personal opinion for showing sincerity of minister of information and culture can’t be an end for this cases. And if the case goes to the court these opinions do not matter at all.
Two weeks ago an English Newspaper published the financial abuse by the Minister of Information and Culture that has also been reflected in various Afghan media.
ANJU while having proofs of the exact case for several months has also struggled to publish and send it responsible institutions such as Anti-bribery and Corruption High Office, Attorney General and National Security Department.
ANJU once again emphasizes that the case of Information and Culture Minister should be addressed regardless of his position.
