Nematullah Karyab the local BBC reporter in Nangarhar province has been arrested today by the security officials.
Still it’s unclear that why Mr. Karyab is arrested and what is the reason behind his arrest also the government officials refusing to comment on the case.
Afghanistan’s National Journalists Union while respects the legal authority and responsibility of the security institutes of the country, wants that the reason behind Mr. Karyab’s arrest should be clear at earliest.
Based on the laws of the country, journalists and media workers have the rights and privileges per media freedom rights and no one should apply any limitation on their journalistic activities.
Afghanistan’s National Journalists Union request the security institutes of the country to not deal with journalists and media workers outside the circle of law.
Once again we emphasize to release Mr. Karyab at earliest opportunity from the custody and if any evidence exist that justify the detention of Mr. Karyab should be made clear.
