International Press Freedom Day

Sunday May 4, 2014

Afghanistan National Journalist Union congratulates the 3rd of May to all journalists, media practitioners and freedom of expression activists.

While we celebrate the freedom of expression, the violence against journalists and media activists are highly increased in recent months in the country.

Afghanistan’s National Journalists Union while appreciates the Afghan government’s policies regarding freedom of expression, strongly criticizes the failure to pursue cases of violence against journalists and media practitioners.

On the other hand we emphasize that the ministry of information and culture that is responsible for safety of Journalists and media activists is fail to fulfill its responsibility.

We promise our colleagues that we will cope with any circumstances to defend their right and stand beside them. We also appreciate the efforts of media directors, media activists and media advocacy institutions for preparing the ground for freedom of expression and right to access to information.

We believe that our concerted efforts can cope with any barrier which comes up in the way of freedom of expression and right to access to information.

Afghanistan’s national journalists union calls all journalists and media activists to try even harder for freedom of media, freedom of expression and right of access to information in the country and to stand against the pressures which are consistently applied to journalists and media by certain circles within government, local warlords, terrorists groups and criminals. Victory, prosperity and success are our main hope for our journalists and media activists.
