Increase of Violence against Journalists in Provinces

This week, a few cases of violence against journalists in various provinces occurred that caused serious concerns.

In one of such incident in Baghlan province, a member of parliament threatened the Tanwir TV reporters and warned to lighted the building of the TV.

In another story, again a member of parliament in Takhar province has threatened a reporter to death whom was covering her illegally voting in favor of a presidential candidate.

In the last case, a number of journalists and civil society activists while protesting against the confiscation of National TV property have been beaten by police officials in Ghor province.

Afghanistan;s National Journalists Union while believes that such actions are against the law and increases the concerns of offending journalists’ institutions, requested the officials especially MOI to address the cases. ANJU has also contacted the ministry of information and Culture, National Security directorate and Attorney General by official letter to address the cases.

ANJU emphasizes that it will stand besides Journalists and media activists in the country and will seriously defend their rights.
