Illegal Decision of the Upper House
Saturday December 27, 2014

The Religious and Cultural Affairs Commission of the Upper House introduced the Chief Editor of the Etla’at e Roz newspaper Zaki Daryabi to the Attorney General on the recent date of the last week.

Etla’at e Roz paper had criticized Sayed Makhdom Raheen, the former Culture and Information Minister in its 750th and 706th papers dated Sep of the current year.

Now that Mr. Daryabi who had not participated the meeting of “Media Complaints and infringements Commission”, apparently Sayed Makhdom Raheen has complained about him to the Religious and Cultural Affairs Commission of the Upper House and this commission has accordingly introduced Mr. Daryabi to the Attorney General.

As per Daryabi, recently the Deputy Minister of the Culture and Information for the Broadcasting Department has contacted him though a phone call and has asked him to attend the Religious and Cultural Affairs Commission of the Upper House.

Daryabi adds: “Firstly we have not received any official letter to attend this commission and meanwhile as per the Media law, investigation to this kind of issues is the task of the Mass Media Commission.

Institutions of journalists’ rights protection are believing that what the Religious and Cultural Affairs Commission of the Upper House has done is an illegal act.

Sediqullah Tawhidi, Media watch says: “Instead of introducing a journalist to Attorney General the Upper House should facilitate the implementation of the law so that the Mass Media Commission act according to that with the journalists.”
