Meeting of the Executive Director with the Media Fellow Institutions

A number of representatives from media outlets and Media supporting institutions had a meeting and discussion with the Chief Executive of National Unity Government, Abdullah Abdullah today before noon. Dissolution of the “ Investigative Commission of Media Complaints and infringements” which was established and still active by Sayed Makhdoom Raheen during the past five years with the apparent disapprobation with the penetrated media law-was the main aim of the participants of this meeting which was followed by the positive response of the Chief Executive and is due that with the mutual discussion with the president, the Chief Executive clear up the issue of dissolution of this commission which has been clearly activated as per the apparent order of former president Hamid Karzai. 

The participants were also insisting on the implementation the law of Access to Information which is already endorsed by the president.

This law was approved by Parliament and was recently signed by President Ghani after a five year effort and struggle of a number of fellow institutions of reporters and media and a number of civil society institutions.

What the Executive Director wants is to strictly follow the implementation of this law.

During the last weeks, one of the very controversial discussions have been the coverage of suicide attacks by the media. 

In today’s meeting, representatives of a number of Media supporting institutions were emphasizing that media should not cover these attacks very widely and somehow the change of the media to a tribune and campaign of the terrorists.

Some of the participants expressed their concerns that renunciation of the terroristic attacks by the media may create serious threats for the media and reports. 

The general demands and opinions of the participants in today’s meeting were about the efforts of throwing up a national forum in this regard and meanwhile requesting the National Unity Government on their position regarding terroristic groups and their clear definition of these groups.
