Illegally detention of a journalist by Herat police

Today around 8p.m Mr. Hussain Nek Khawa reporter of Isteqlal local TV in Herat while picturing a criminal event, has been verbally abused by the Herat police officials first and then illegally detained for more than half hour.

Mr. Nek Khawa says; however, I showed my press ID batch to criminal director and police officers, and tried to picture the even by my cellphone, the police officers prevented me from picturing the event.

According to Mr. Nek Khawa, criminal director of Herat in presence of prosecution office representative first verbally abused him and then put him on the trunk of police ranger and toke him to 3th police station of Herat and detained him.

As Mr. Nek Khawa’s cloths were partly torn during the conflict, after the detention he has been released by intervenes of chief prosecutor in Herat and free journalist associations.

Mr. Qadeer Shaheen, representative of Afghanistan’s National Journalists Union in Herat informs of having gather meeting of media support organizations and advocacy regarding this issue, and he adds that the joint journalist organizations of Herat province yesterday in gathering investigates this event and got in contact with police chief and prosecutor of Herat to get answers about this event.

According to Mr. Shaheen, Abdul Haq Ahmadi, head of Herat prosecutor has condemned the incident and promised that he will seriously follow it if the incident become office in General Directorate.

Mr. Shaheed added; Herat police chief Mohammad Ayoub Ansari also promised to review the case and have practical actions to solve this issue.

Herat Journalist organizations, in their recent meeting wants the central government to fulfill their promises of the president in supporting of journalists and prevent violence against journalists.
