Statement No: 171
In the last two days, the internet users in Kabul have been complaining that they cannot access ‘Hasht-e-subh’ daily’s webpage.
Based on the information disseminated by some social network users, the cyber-attacks against ‘Hasht-e-subh’ daily’s webpage was intensified after it published an article, titled “the National Security Council is providing Gulbudin Hekmatyar with money”.
The editors of Hasht-e-subh daily have also previously complained about cyber-attacks on their webpage. However, the scale of such attacks has increased in the last two days which has repeatedly blocked access to the webpage.
ANJU recognizes cyber security as a basic right of every citizen of Afghanistan as well as all internet users, and believes that any kind of restrictions in this regard is illegal and intolerable.
We call upon the ‘JOint Coordination Committee of Media and the Government’ which has been established to ensure the security and safety of journalists and media, to seriously and urgently follow the issue in order to prevent any probable future problems for ‘Hasht-e-subh’ daily and other media in cyberspace of the country.
ANJU calls upon all internet users in the country to stand against any extrajudicial restrictions in cyberspace and to widely engage in sharing information about this issue.
The Executive Council of the Afghanistan’s National Journalists Union
