Police officers beat two journalists in Ghazni

Thursday December 22, 2016

Last night, two employees of Aftab television, a local station in Ghazni were beaten by police officers.

Muhammad Salem a correspondent and Muhammad Qasem Ghafori a technician of Aftab Television were stopped by a security check point while passing the Police Head Quarter of Ghanzi province on a motorcycle, and they were beaten after an argument.

The Police Head Quarter of Ghazni province forbids motorcycle riding by more than one person based on security grounds. However by issuing official letters, the Police Head Quarter conceded an exception for a number of journalists.

Muhammad Salem and Muhammad Qasem who were riding the same motorcycle were carrying such letters, but in spite of that they were beaten by police officers.

Muhammad Aref Noori, the representative of the ANJU in Ghazni province asserts: “Muhammad Salem was beaten in the face by a gun which has caused serious injuries to his mouth and nose.”

The police officials of Ghazni have refrained to comment on this issue.
