Mr. Anwarullah Anwari, a journalist of Bakhtar News Agency was beaten by head of Zabul police station yesterday evening.

Anwari says, he was beaten while taking pictures of a quarrel between police officers and the public.

According to him, the head of Zabul police station assaulted him after an argument and seized his mobile phone and equipment.

In this incident, the left hand of Mr. Anwari was seriously injured.

The head of Zabul police headquarters denies Mr. Anwari’s hand fracture; but says to prosecute the case.

Afghanistan’s National Journalists Union (ANJU) demanded the serious prosecution of the case by contacting the governor of Zabul province.

Faheem Dashty, Chief Executive of ANJU states: “not only we contacted the local authorities of Zabul province, we are also in contact with authorities in the ministry of interior affairs and with that of the office of president’s spokesman to prosecute the perpetrators of this incident.”

Last year too, Mr. Anwari had been assaulted by police and they had broken his camera as well.
