The security guards of a road building company which is working on Kabul- Jalalabad highway has beaten two journalists and kept them in custody for a while.
Zeyar Khanyad, a journalist of Tolo TV and Sabawoon Sahel, a journalist of Maiwand TV were beaten by the security guards of the company while they were reporting on the progress of the project.
According to Zeyar Khan, the employees of the company had complained that their salaries were not paid for several months and on the other hand, there are some reports about the slow progress of the project and we wanted to cover these issues when we were assaulted by the security guards.
The authorities in Nangrahar province say that following this incident, three security guards of the company has been arrested by police and they are under interrogation.
Afghanistan’s National Journalists Union (ANJU) has affirmed to closely follow up the case.
According to ANJU officials, failure to ensure the safety of journalists has reached to a point where even a construction company dares to entertain itself with violence against them.
