
Mr. Lemar Niyazay one of the active journalists in Paktiya Province, who was selected as regional moderator by Elections commission was seriously beaten by unknown armed people yesterday. A day before the elections(4th of Apr) Mr. Kamran Zemaray the Zhewandon radio journalist who was also elected by elections commission as regional moderator of elections in zormat district of Paktiya province was beaten by police officials.
Mr. Niyazullah Asil Zazay head for regional office of ANJU in Paktiya says:” Kiftan Ikhlas, governor of Zormat District ordered police to beat Mr. Zemaray Kamran a day before elections”.
He includes:” we wanted to present this case of Mr. Kamran to the Media but the people wanted to not disrupt the elections, therefore we rejected to spread the news”.
Mr. Niyazay and Mr.Kamran believes that their honesty for holding elections were the main cause of the violence against them.
Afghanistan’s National Journalists Union in response to this case requested security and justice institutions to quickly find the perpetrators of the case and bring them to justice.
Mr. Faheem Dashty chief executive director of ANJU says:” we have also contacted Ministry of interior about the same recent cases which were happened during the week in Takhar, Baghlan and Ghor provinces.”
Paktiya Journalists Union release a statement requesting the Government specially security agencies to quickly bring the perpetrators of these cases to justice.
After ten days of elections, this is the fifth case of violence against Afghan Journalists in the cournty.
