Statement No: 186
A video is being circulated in social media since this morning in which, someone who apparently identifies himself as a reporter of Parliament TV station enters a restaurant.
In this video, police officers are also shown who claim that the reporter’s presence has been made possible with police coordination.
In spite of many efforts, Afghanistan’s National Journalists Union (ANJU) has not received any information from Parliament TV in this regard.
ANJU deems it necessary to note the following points in this respect:
-First, if the reporter enters the restaurant without legal warrant or without the consent of restaurant management for recording as shown in the video, his attitude is in contrast to the law and we strongly condemn it.
-The tone of reporter and the usage of offensive words against the owner of restaurant is extremely denouncing. Likewise, it is worth mentioning that the owner’s tone is also offensive which shouldn’t have been as such.
-ANJU asks relative authorities especially the committee for addressing media violations to address this case with precision and urgency.
ANJU while outlines that all media activities should take place within legal platform and in consideration of professional ethic codes, denounces any kind of unprofessional behavior of journalists and media.
