A number of Journalists, civil society activists and civilians had been beaten in Ghor province by police officials while a peaceful protest against confiscation of National TV property.

Since few weeks the Municipality of Ghor province has tried to take some parts of National TV land and distribute it for private sectors. In response to this action of Municipality, National TV officials of Ghor have stopped broadcasting three weeks ago.

Afghanistan’s National Journalists Union has officially contacted the Ministry of Information and culture, MOI and also provincial attorney office and requested to address the case.

According to president of National TV in Ghor province: as a result of three weeks efforts, the ministry of information and culture and the Municipality of Ghor province agreed to judicially solve this case. Until that, the municipality should not start constructions in the field

Despite of it, last day while the Municipality officials started their work in the field a number of Journalists, civil society activists and civilians protested against this action in front of National TV building. Mr. AbdullQadirGhori, Head ofANJU’s provincial Office in Ghor says: “the Municipality asked police officials for assistance and while the Police came they did not notice our civil right movement and started beating the participants of protest.”He included, at least 3 journalists and a lot of civilians were injured in this incident.

Afghanistan;s National Journalists Union has sent the evidence of this incident which were captured by journalists to the Ministry of Interior. 

Mr. SediqSediqi, Spokesman of MOI says:”we will contact the responsible institutions in Kabul and Ghor province to find the causes of this incident and to prevent any illegal actions.”

When the police attacked the protesters in front of National TV building, they gathered again in front of the provincial governor office demanding the dismissal of the governor, mayor and police chief of Ghor province.
