Mokhtar Wafayi, Journalist and director of Howaida News Website and Howaida Weekly magazine has been beaten up by unknown armed people yesterday. Wafayi has been transferred to the central hospital of Balkh province after the incident. In response to this incident, number of journalists and media activists held a meeting in Mazar-e-Sharif and condemned the violence against Journalists.
Fardin Ferdaws, ANJU’s provincial office head in Balkh says: “in this meeting including journalists, number of supporting agencies and institution’s officials were also present”.
According to Ferdaws , participants of today’s meeting requested an immediate investigation by police officials.
Wafayi, that was also present in today’s meeting, said: “Four gunmen riding on motorbikes followed me and beated me with knife and pistol and injured my head and face and then they escaped”.
Recently Wafayi had published some investigative reports " Hezb u Altahrer" and some other extremist groups .He believes that this attack might have relation to his published articles.
Police officials said that they started the investigation on this case but still they didn't have a clue to find out the perpetrators of this incident.
