Forming committee to track the murder case of journalists.

At the meeting held on Saturday the justice committee of the cabinet decided to form a committee to follow up and track the murder and violence cases of the journalists.

In this committee the officials from ministry of interior, information and culture, attorney general, national security department and Afghanistan’s media and journalist’s federations was attended.

Mohammad Sarwar Danish chief of justice committee of cabinet and Vice president said at the meeting; the judicial institutions was not able to track the cases of murder and violence against journalists and media workings and had no result in previous years and he criticized, the newly formed committee have to first conclude all the cases of murder and violence against journalist and media workers and follow them up accordingly.

In this meeting Mozhgan Mostafavi publication deputy of ministry of information and culture had prepared a report with in collaboration with NAI and ANJU and shows that in the past fifteen years there was 625 cases of violence against journalists and 59 murder cases.

In the report which was presented by the acting attorney general addressing the cases, only 12 cases out of all were followed but incomplete with no result.

Par this report the officials of Afghanistan’s National Journalists Union and NAI which was present in this meeting which have always followed these cases pointed that, they will fully cooperate with the newly formed committee to address these cases and follow them up.

Mohammad Faheem Dashty chief executive of Afghanistan’s National Journalists Union said: “the prosecutor’s report can clarify that case from 1388 onwards are in discovery phase, or cases without a legitimate reason is removed from the circle of investigation which declares that there was no well pursue of these cases and this has caused the widespread discontent and disagreeing of the journalists and media activists.

Abdul Mujeeb Khelwatgar NAI’s chief of staff also by presenting of fact and figures of violence against journalists said; the judicial institutions and police has properly done their duties and the newly formed committee can help to track these cases and get a positive result.

According to Nasrullah Stanekzai’s suggestion and member of legal advisory board of President, these cases should be categorized in three different categories (the case which are under review, the case under investigation and the cases which are still under discovery phase) and the responsible institutes should track them.

Abdul Qadir Adalatkhawa a member of supreme court who was present in this meeting said; while referring these cases to the court, they will address them at their earliest.

In the coming week, addressing of the violence and murder cases of journalists will official begin.
