President Karzai : Legal cases on media should be closed

President Karzai has forgiven all the files of the media which have been in process in the attorney office or courts since ten years to now. These files are included all complains on media or journalists which are in process in attorney office and courts.

Aimal Faizi the president’s spokesman has said "in the justice and law session which was held on last Thursday(Jan the 9th), where chief justice, attorney general along with other seniors of judiciary and prosecution institutions were present the decision have been made to close all the cases against journalists and media.

Mr. Faizi said; subject to this decision, all files of the media and media members which are still in the attorney general office and are getting investigated “is quarantined on place” and is not going to be prosecuted anymore.

The president spokesman added that the files which are adjudicated upon them, after the request of the ministry of justice by a decree will be forgiven.

President Karzai recently in the meeting with the media authorities in the presidential palace promised them that soon he will make decision to close all the cases on them. This promise faced to the welcoming of the media supporters and journalists of the country .

Faheem Dashty the executive director of Afghanistan's journalists union says; we have not just emphasized the issuance of the official decree of the president by issuing statements and holding press conferences, rather we have contacted the related authorities via official letters to push the issue.

With consideration to Mr. Dashty, now Afghanistan's national journalists union will be in contact with the related authorities until receiving of complete assurance from the destiny of these files.
